SHARING THE GOSPEL. MAKING DISCIPLES. EMPOWERING BELIEVERS.
What is repentance?
Repentance is to change your mind. More than feeling sorry or remorseful about something, repentance is to change your mind and heart about something leading to a change in action.
To whom are we repenting?
We are repenting to God, the Creator of all things. The One who created us in His likeness and image with tremendous value and purpose.
Of what are we repenting?
We are repenting of sin. Sin is any thought or action that falls short of God's will. Another definition for sin is to miss the mark. When we sin, we miss the mark of God's perfect moral standard. In addition to repenting of sin, we repent of unbelief in Jesus Christ.
Why must we repent?
We must repent in order to come into agreement with God. God is a holy God who hates sin, and He is going to judge sin on His appointed time. He will end sin once and for all. Repentance of sin is a sign of humility. It is our humble expression of submission to God and acceptance of His moral standard.
When we repent and believe in Jesus Christ, God gives us His Holy Spirit so that we receive new life in Him. By the power of His Holy Spirit, we become one with Him and we are able to live a life that pleases Him and benefits us. Not only does God's Holy Spirit help us live a life that pleases Him in the here and now, but His Holy Spirit also serves as a down payment for eternal life.
How is this picture of repentance and reconciliation to God sparked? This is the saving power of the gospel.
